The Brownfield Land Fund is funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to help clear sites and help meet housing requirements , with £60m being allocated for new housing across the Liverpool City Region.

In planning terms, any land which has previously been developed is classed as brownfield. In the Liverpool City Region, much of this land is derelict and formerly industrial so it has to be cleaned up to make it ready for redevelopment.

Metro Mayor, Steve Rotheram, has recently released a further £8.9m of funding to assist the creation of 671 new homes across seven projects.  These include a Sandway Homes’ development at the former Bootle High School site in Brown’s Lane, Netherton. This scheme will deliver 53 new homes whilst retaining green,  open space for the community.

This is the second Sandway project to benefit from Brownfield Land Funding.  £1m was previously awarded to enable clearance of the former Z blocks site, prior to housebuilding.

Work is now underway at our Molyneux Gardens development to deliver 45 new homes.  The site was visited recently by the Metro Mayor and Councillor Marion Atkinson, Leader of Sefton Council, alongside Councillor Paulette Lappin who were delighted to see progress being made, having been told that the first of these new homes is due to be delivered in Autumn 2024.
